Day In Clay 2026

Our 13th Annual Local Clay Workshop in Ewen was a wonderful day of pottery making, sharing stories and skills about the land around us, and connecting with friends, old and new, from near and far!

Thank you to everyone who came out to make pots with us, to learn about your local clay, to meet artists from across the country, and to play music with us! Thank you to Ewen-Trout Creek School for hosting us, and a special thanks to all who supported us behind the scenes with your skills, encouragement, and donations. We appreciate you all so much!

Our Staff meet up in Ewen from across the US, to host the Resident Artists. For two weeks teach them the ways of wild clay! We all camp, live, and work together outdoors to dig and prepare the clay, host Day In Clay, and to glaze and fire the pottery after the event.

The Residents hand-harvest and specially prepare the clay for us all to use at Day In Clay! They dig it up, sieve out all the rocks, add fine Lake Superior beach sand, and wedge it up to the perfect consistency for pottery.

And where would we be without Participants?! Year after year, we’re delighted at the attendance from you all in the Ewen area, and beyond. We love to share our knowledge and enthusiasm for using local, natural materials, and creating art with friends!

Day In Clay is supported by grants from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition, and matched by our generous donors - families, individuals, and businesses - are crucial to making this all happen.
